Cathy uses strongly outlined and stylised forms, combined with vivid colour to create vibrant paintings of plants, landscapes and human figures. Years of working with the Department of Conservation as a botanist have given her a love for New Zealand's native plants and she wants to highlight the lesser-known species, many of which are at risk of extinction. She often paints plants in their habitat and may include human or man-made elements as a reminder that the plants' fate is in our hands. Mostly she paints in acrylic but she also works with watercolours and creates scientific illustrations in ink. To date her works have gone to buyers in Scotland, Canada, USA, Australia and many parts of New Zealand. NEXT EXHIBITION "UNCOVERED". New work since my graduation with an Advanced Diploma in Art and Creativity. Opening at the McKee Gallery at Nelson's new Suter Gallery 5.30pm Friday September 8.
