Cathy Jones
I have been painting seriously and selling works since 1975. My exhibition history started in Tauranga where I was mentored by Marge Martin. I exhibited with the Tauranga Society of Artists, also staging solo shows and shared exhibitions with my father, Ben Carter, a prolific painter of watercolours. I worked with oils and watercolours before my main focus changed to acrylics in the mid 1980s. Now, at the end of a career as a professional botanist, I am pursuing a longheld dream of working as a professional artist.
I paint New Zealand's native plants, figures, and occasionally landscapes. The problems faced by women and threatened plants are common themes.
To date my works have gone to buyers in Scotland, Korea, USA, Canada, Australia and many parts of NZ.
